Shimla: In the last two months, drought farming and horticulture have been hit in Himachal Pradesh. Due to the lack of adequate rainfall in the districts, 50 to 70 percent of the wheat crop has turned yellow and wilted. The drought crisis is also increasing on crops like barley, peas, and garlic. In Mandi, Kangra, Bilaspur, Sirmaur, Chamba, up to 70 percent of crop damage has been reported. There is a worse situation in Hamirpur. The effect is slightly less in Una and Kullu. According to the farmers, urea was composted in the fields in the hope of a good crop due to drizzle, but lack of rain caused all crops to yellowish.

During this time, even the apple orchards are not untouched by the effect of drought. It has been learned that most of the farming in the state is dependent on rainwater. In such a situation, the possibility of heavy losses to farmers cannot be ruled out if the wheat crop is completely destroyed without rain. However, the farmers have not given up hope for major losses to be postponed due to the early rains. Agricultural experts say that if sufficient rainfall is received by 15 March, the crop can be recovered.

What percentage of the wheat crop was affected in which district: 90 in Hamirpur, 70 in Mandi-Kangra, 60 in Bilaspur, 20 in Sirmour, 15 percent wheat crop was affected in Una.
