AHMEDABAD: Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, became the sixth Indian hitter to reach 17,000 runs in international cricket with his knock of 35 in the first innings of the fourth Test against Australia.

Rohit reached 17,000 runs in international cricket after getting four additional runs in the morning session of day three of play at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where he was unbeaten on 17 runs at the time of day two's play.
He now joins a group of Indian batters who have scored more than 17,000 runs in international cricket, including the iconic Sachin Tendulkar, the superstar Virat Kohli, head coach Rahul Dravid, and ex-captains Sourav Ganguly and Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

In June 2007, Rohit made his India debut in an ODI match against Ireland. Since then, he has participated in 48 Tests, 241 ODIs, and 148 T20I games, appearing in all of them and scoring 3348, 9782, and 3853 runs, respectively. He is currently playing in the Test match in Ahmedabad.

Moreover, he is the first cricketer in history to have scored three ODI double hundreds. As he stopped Mitchell Starc's short-ball strategy in the first innings at Ahmedabad, Rohit might have scored more runs.

Nevertheless, in the 21st over, as he prepared for a backfoot punch from left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann, he sent the ball straight to short extra cover.

India has already won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after winning in Nagpur and New Delhi, but after losing in Indore, they will need to win in Ahmedabad to go to the World Test Championship final, which will take place at The Oval from June 7 to 11.
