Rohit Shetty upcoming project which is an exciting cop drama titled Sooryavanshi stars Akshay Kumar in the titular role. He made the announcement of the film in an interesting way in Ranveer Singh's Simba last year, which was also a police drama. The director also announced that the film's lead heroine will be Katrina Kaif.

While talking to a leading daily, the Golmaal director revealed why Katrina Kaif is an apt choice for his film. Rohit Shetty said, "Katrina has a very good role in the film. We both have been trying to work with each together on a film but this seemed like an apt film for both of us."

With films like Singham, Simba and now Sooryavanshi, Rohit revealed that he wants to expand his desi cop universe. About the same, he said, "After making Singham franchise, we thought of expanding the cop universe and that’s how Simba happened. For the first time, we had merged two worlds — Simba and Singham and had also added a new element with Sooryavanshi. It was a big risk but it worked."

Apart from Akshay and Katrina, the film will also star Badhaai Ho starrer Neena Gupta. Earlier, Neena revealed a little about her character to Mumbai Mirror and said, “There is a new temperament to the mother, and you will get to see a very different dynamic between Akshay, Katrina and me. This is a new, sweet and interesting space that I am looking to explore”.

Neena also praised Rohit and said that he has made some of the most ‘amazing films’ and the audience loves his style of work.
