As a solution to the rising rail accidents, the railways plan to invest Rs. 73000 crore on improving the degree of safety in a train journey. The announcement was made by the Railway Minister, Piyush Goyal, who was speaking at an event, India Infracon, organised by Asian News International on Tuesday.  He said that it requires a change in mindset to address problems and implement large-scale projects in the country.

Appreciating Prime Minister’s efforts he said, “The best excuse has been lack of funds. We were used to taking long years to implement projects, using age-old technology. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed the mindset from a shortage of funds to availability of funds for every good idea. In order to ensure safety in railways, we plan to invest about Rs 73,000 crore in safety-related issues next year.”

Further elaborating the plan, Goyal said that to prevent rail accidents in future, top-notch railway signaling systems need to be installed which will aid the movement, particularly during winters, when the fog and pollution hinder railway operations. He also indicated at modernizing the railways with adequate safety measures and also address another issue, punctuality of trains.

“The government plans to implement these changes over a course of six to seven years,” he added.
