Guwahati: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has stopped the printing of Rs 2000 notes. These new notes were issued after the RBI demonetisation. RBI has now revealed this in response to a question asked under Right to Information (RTI). RTI has been told that not a single note of Rs 2,000 has been printed in this financial year. However, the RBI has not given any reason behind this. But it is believed that the reason behind stopping the printing of this note is the prevalence of black money and fake notes.

The Indian government banned the old 500 and 1,000 rupee notes in 2016. After this, RBI had introduced 2,000 rupee notes in the market. After this RBI also issued new notes of 500 rupees. The bank also says that we have enough Rs 2,000 notes. In circulation, more than 35% of the notes are worth 2,000 rupees in terms of value. There has been no recent decision regarding the printing of Rs 2,000 note.

It has been said that due to the high value of 200 notes, black money increases and corruption is encouraged. Apart from this, there is also the problem of fake notes. The NIA had recently revealed that a consignment of fake rupees worth 2,000 rupees from Pakistan is being sent to the Indian market. Apart from this, most of the seized notes in many raids of the Income Tax Department are worth Rs 2,000.
