AGARTALA: Officials from the Rubber Board said on Thursday that they had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Singapore-based company to conduct natural rubber research.
The MoU was inked with Singapore's SMPT (Societe des Matieres Premieres Tropicales Pte Ltd), a 100% subsidiary of Michelin, a large global tyre firm, to conduct various forms of natural rubber research, according to a Rubber Board official. The MoU was signed virtually by Rubber Board Executive Director K.N. Raghavan and SMPT Managing Director Trai-Ukos Segsarn.
Raghavan stated in an official statement that the Indian Rubber Board has made significant progress in the fields of Hevea clone genetic improvement, disease and pest management, latex harvest technology, processing, product development, and knowledge sharing with leading research firms such as the SMPT.
The announcement quoted the Rubber Board head as saying that – “this collaboration would help to improve the sustainability and development of the entire rubber value chain, benefiting growers in particular”.
