Guwahati: From the news that has just been received, it has come to know that there is a lot of opposition in the Northeast states against citizen bill. It has been passed after a lot of uproar in the Lok Sabha. In protest, North East Students Organization (NESO) and All Assam Students Union have called a 12-hour Guwahati bandh. Students have also performed nude protest against the bill. Nagaland has been exempted from the bandh due to Hornbill festival. The NESO shutdown has also received support from the opposition Congress, the Left and the AIDUF. At the same time, many left democratic organizations have called for a 12-hour shutdown on Tuesday. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that she will oppose the divisive bill at any cost and no citizen of the country will be allowed to reduce the status of a refugee.

At the same time, the general public life was affected in many districts on the first day of the 48-hour Assam bandh by the All Moran Students Union (AMSU) to pressurize the demand for citizenship bill and Scheduled Tribe status to six communities. Protests were held in Assam and Tripura despite the apprehensions of all student organizations in the area.

According to information received from sources, hundreds of people took to the road in Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Majuli, Morigaon, Bongaigaon, Udalguri, Kokrajhar and Baksa districts after the bandh started at 5 am. In many places, protesters burnt tires and blocked the national highway. Apart from the bandh against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, AMSU organized a demonstration to insist on the demand for grant of Scheduled Tribe status to Moran and 5 other communities - Tai Ahom, Cooch Rajbongshi, Chutia, Tea Garden Community and Matak. The protesters also protested against Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at many places.
