New Delhi: The Indian rupee fell four paise, to 73.06 against it in early trade on Monday, as the US dollar strengthened. The Indian rupee opened at 73.02 against the dollar in the interbank forex exchange market, then plunged to 73.06, showing a four-paise fall against the previous close.

The rupee had closed at 73.02 against the US dollar in the previous trading session. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which showed the US dollar's position against six major currencies, gained 0.18 per cent to 92.20. Foreign Institutional Investors (FII) were net buyers in the capital market. According to temporary exchange data, they bought shares worth Rs 768.58 crore on Friday.

On the domestic stock market front, the 30-share Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was trading 274.79 points, or 0.47 percent, higher at 58,404.74. Similarly, the Nifty at the Broader National Stock Exchange (NSE) gained 74.70 points, or 0.43 percent, to 17,398.30. Meanwhile, global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were down 1.06 percent at $71.84 a barrel.
