On March 17, the rupee jumped 41 paise to settle at 75.80 against the dollar, boosted by bullish domestic stocks and broad dollar weakness.

The local currency opened at 75.96 vs the US dollar on the interbank Forex market, with an intraday high of 75.77 and a low of 75.97. The rupee ended the day at 75.80, up 41 paise from its previous finish of 76.21.

The dollar index, which measures the strength of the greenback against a basket of six currencies, dropped 0.39 percent to 98.23.  The rupee gained 63 paise against the US dollar on a weekly basis. The global oil benchmark, Brent crude futures, rose 5.02 percent to USD102.94 a barrel.

The BSE Sensex closed the day 1,047.28 points or 1.84 percent higher at 57,863.93, while the broader NSE Nifty climbed 311.70 points or 1.84 percent higher to 17,287.05. According to stock exchange data, foreign institutional investors were net purchasers in the capital market on Wednesday, purchasing shares worth 311.99 crore.
