Indian Rupee Versus US Dollar: The rupee fell 15 paise to 75.95 per dollar on Thursday, weighed down by rising crude oil costs and the growing confrontation between Russia and Ukraine.

Market sentiment was also influenced by persistent international capital outflows and sluggish local equity markets, according to currency dealers.

The rupee opened high versus the dollar at 75.76 on the interbank foreign currency market, but quickly fell into negative territory as investors sought safe-haven assets. It fluctuated between a high of 75.60 and a low of 75.98 during the session.

The local currency ended the day at 75.95 per dollar, down 15 paise from the previous closing. The dollar index, which measures the strength of the greenback against a basket of six currencies, was up 0.23 percent at 97.63.

Brent crude prices rose 2.59 percent to USD115.85 a barrel, a new high. On Thursday, Russian and Ukrainian officials are expected to undertake their second round of talks in Belarus.

On the Share market front, the BSE Sensex fell 366.22 points, or 0.66 percent, to 55,102.68, while the wider NSE Nifty down 107.90 points, or 0.65 percent, to 16,498.05. According to exchange statistics, foreign institutional investors maintained their selling activity  in Indian markets on Wednesday, offloading shares worth Rs.4,338.94 crore on a net basis.
