Indian Rupee VS US Dollar: Following a drop in crude oil prices and a recovery in domestic equities, the rupee gained 44 paise to 76.56 against the US dollar on Wednesday. The local currency opened at 76.90 vs the US dollar on the interbank forex market, moving between  an intra-day high and low of 76.55 and 76.92 respectivelty.

At the market closing bell, the rupee was trading at 76.56, up 44 paise from its previous close.

The rupee sank 7 paise to a lifetime low of 77 versus the US dollar on Tuesday, pushed down by rising crude oil costs. The dollar index lost 0.40 percent to 98.66, which gauges the strength of the greenback against a basket of six currencies.

The global oil benchmark, Brent crude futures, were trading 1.88 percent down at $125.57 per barrel.

The BSE Sensex rose 1,223.24 points, or 2.29 percent, to 54,647.33, while the broader NSE Nifty rose 331.90 points, or 2.07 percent, to 16,345.35. According to stock exchange data, foreign institutional investors were net sellers in the capital market on Tuesday, offloading shares worth Rs 8,142.60 crore.
