Currency Markets Updates: After reaching an all-time low on Friday, the Indian rupee recovered to end the day 12 paise provisionally higher at 78.94 against the US dollar.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local currency started the day at 78.99 against the US dollar and dropped as low as 79.12 during the day. It eventually reached 78.94, up 12 paise from the previous closing.
On the Indian share market front, the BSE benchmark Sensex fell 111.01 points, or 0.21 percent, to finish at 52,907.93, while the broader NSE Nifty fell 28.20 points, or 0.18 percent, to finish at 15,752.05.
The dollar index, which assesses the value of the dollar in relation to a basket of six different currencies, was up 0.30 percent at 105.
The benchmark for world oil, Brent crude futures, increased 1.79 percent to USD 110.98 a barrel.
According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors continued to be net sellers in the capital market on Thursday, selling shares worth 1,138.05 crore.
