3 Indian hockey legends to return from retirement for CWG 2022

Indian hockey teams are scheduled to participate in this year's Commonwealth Games in Birmingham (Birmingham CWG 2022), but these are not going to be the main teams, but India's A teams for women's and men's events. Which was recently reported by Hockey India. Now there is big news on this front. This is the only reason why two senior players will return from retirement to be a part of Team India in this tournament. Rupinder Pal Singh and Birendra Lakra of the Indian team, which won a historic bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, are all set to make a comeback from retirement. Apart from him, veteran forward SV Sunil is also returning from retirement. All three players announced their retirement last year.

Former Indian captain and legendary player Sardar Singh is also going to be appointed as the coach of the men's team to train the Indian A team for this tournament. Former striker Deepak Thakur has been made the coach of the women's 'A' hockey team. Both these teams are going to take part only in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. India's main teams of women's and men's hockey are not going to Birmingham due to preparations for the crucial Asian Games after the CWG.

33-player group berth: Hockey India has also announced the names of 33-33 players for India 'A' men's and women's core potential group on Saturday, March 5. Hockey India President Gyanendro Ningombaam said in a statement, "We are very happy to have legends like Deepak Thakur and Sardar Singh joining the national coaching programme. The players are going to benefit a lot from their experience."

The three stalwarts returning from retirement have also been included among the 33 men's core probable eligible for selection. Both the teams will start the national camp on March 7 at the SAI Centre in Bengaluru.
