Kyiv: Ukrainian officials reported early on Tuesday that a "massive missile" attack by Russia overnight on the city of Kryvyi Rih in central Ukraine resulted in the deaths and injuries of people as well as the destruction of civilian infrastructure.

Serhiy Lisak, the governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, where Kryvyi Rih is situated, posted on the Telegram messaging app, "There are dead and wounded." The phrase "a massive missile attack on Kryvyi Rih."

Air raid sirens were heard early on Tuesday throughout the entire country of Ukraine. According to military officials in Kyiv, air defence forces shot down all Russian missiles aimed at the Ukrainian capital.

According to Ukraine's top military command, air forces destroyed 10 of the 14 cruise missiles Russia fired at the country as well as one of the four drones made in Iran.

How many missiles hit Kryvyi Rih and where the drones launched from Russia actually made contact with their targets were not immediately known.

According to Oleksandr Vilkul, the mayor of Kryvyi Rih, several residential buildings, including a five-story building, were struck.

In a photo she posted, Lisak showed a five-story apartment building with all of its windows blown out and some of them emitting smoke.

Regarding the alleged strikes, Russia made no immediate comment. In the conflict that Russia started against its neighbour nearly 16 months ago, both Russia and Ukraine deny targeting civilians.

On his Telegram channel, the mayor of Kharkiv, a city in eastern Ukraine, claimed that Russian drones had attacked civilian infrastructure there, hitting a warehouse and a building housing a utility company. There was no recent information available regarding casualties.
