MOSCOW: The selection and dispatch of mercenaries to Ukraine is handled by private military firms (PMCs) from the United States and the United Kingdom. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, a Russian Foreign Ministry official spokeswoman, as per the Russian Times report.

"For them (mercenaries), cargoes are lured by private military firms in the United States and the United Kingdom, and there are no sanctions or limits against them... there is no dispute," she stated at a press conference. Zakharova stated that international institutions such as the OSCE, the Council of Europe, and NATO are "joyfully mute" in the face of mercenaries.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry has charged Ukrainian "nationalist battalions militants" of setting fire to a massive granary in Mariupol's sea port while escaping Russian forces.

According to a statement from the ministry, the alleged act of arson was down to the unwillingness of the militants to leave grain supplies for Mariupol's residents.  more than 50,000 tonnes of grain were destroyed, Russian Times reported.

"This heinous crime exposes the 'real face' of the Kiev dictatorship, which, in fact, employs food terrorism against its own people," it alleged.
