KIEV: According to officials in the war-torn ukraine, on Monday, Russia unleashed massive missile attacks across Ukraine, including the capital Kiev, resulting in power and water outages.

At least two explosions have been recorded in Kiev, and strikes have also been reported in the centre Vinnytsia region, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia in the south-east, and Lviv in the west, according to the officials quoted by the BBC. Critical infrastructural facilities were damaged in the city of Kharkiv in the northeast, according to the local authorities.

Russia accused Ukraine of carrying out a drone attack on its Black Sea Fleet in the annexation of Crimea, prompting the strikes.

Russian strategic bombers were employed to carry out the attack, according to Yuriy Ihnat, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force, who talked to local media.

The head of President Volodymyr Zelensky's office, Andriy Yerkmak, reportedly stated that "Russian losers are continuing to battle against peaceful things," according to the BBC.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a drone strike on a Russian warship on Saturday in the port city of Sevastopol resulted in damage.

It also said that British experts had instructed the Ukrainian military who later carried out the strikes in Crimea, a peninsula in southern Ukraine that Russia invaded in 2014.

Moscow did not, however, offer any proof to support its assertions.

While the UK Defense Ministry claimed that Russia was "peddling false claims on an epic scale," Ukraine has not commented on the matter.
