Moscow: Six people were killed and two others were injured in an explosion at an explosives factory in the Samara region of central Russia, according to Russian news agencies on Friday.

At the Promsintez plant in Chapayevsk, there was an explosion. Emergency services reported that "eight people were injured, six of whom died," according to the RIA Novosti news agency.

They claimed that the explosion happened "as a result of the dismantling of equipment during repair work."

One of the major producers of industrial explosives in Russia and the former Soviet Union is Promsintez.

According to the company's website, it employs 1,300 people and provides services to the mining and oil and gas industries.

The factory was founded by the final tsar of imperial Russia, Nicholas II, in 1911, but the company that owns it was founded in 1997.

In Russian factories, accidents—including fatal ones—are relatively frequent and safety regulations are frequently ignored.
