Suva: The next 'World Hindi Conference' is scheduled to be held in Nadi, Fiji between February 15-17, 2023. Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan has given this information on Thursday (October 27). External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar launched the mascot and website of the 12th World Hindi Conference on the occasion. During this, he said that efforts are on to include Hindi as an official language in the United Nations (UN). There has been some advancement, but it will take time.

The External Affairs Minister was speaking at an event organised at the Sushma Swaraj Bhawan here on Thursday. On this occasion, the logo of the World Hindi Conference was released, for which a competition was organized. Along with this, a website was launched for registration and other information about the conference. Responding to questions from reporters on the occasion, Jaishankar said Hindi is being used in UNESCO. As far as the use of Hindi at the UN headquarters is concerned, we have a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UN in this regard. Under this, Hindi is currently being used in social media and newsletters.

Regarding the inclusion of Hindi in the UN, he said that it will take some time to increase it. It is not so simple to include a new language in the un process. However, continuous progress is being made in this direction. We hope it happens soon. Responding to a question on promoting Hindi in other countries through digital mediums, he said that our experience is about the use of the digital medium, especially in Africa. It deals with the use of digital mediums in the field of education, and medicine. He said that this subject has been discussed in the meeting of the Advisory Committee. We wish to use modern technology to promote Hindi. Fiji Embassy officials were also present on the occasion.
