Sabarimala Temple protest turns voilent :Watch Protesters block and attack women journalist in Pathanamthitta

Thiruvananthapuram: In Kerala, protests over the entry of women in Sabarimala temple have turned violent in spite of heavy security arrangements. In the most recent development armed, masked mobs today targeted slew of  women media persons who had gone to cover the protests. Near Kerala's Sabarimala temple their vehicles vandalized. At least four media organisations were targeted in presence of the police including News 18, CNN-IBN and Aaj Tak .the reporter suggested that one reporter from Republic TV was beaten with sticks, another from The News Minute was kicked on the spine.

Traditionally banned to women aged between 10 and 50 years, the well-known place of pilgrimage to Lord Ayappa will open its doors to women this afternoon following a Supreme Court rule.

The reporter was on a state transport bus that was carrying devotees to Sabarimala, when a mob of 20 men -- allegedly belonging to Karma Samithi -- surrounded the bus and tried to pull her out.  She was verbally abused and physically attacked. One person in the mob had kicked her on the spine, as the News Minute reported.

Meanwhile one of the tribal organizations living on the hills surrounding Sabarimala has recently accused the government and the court as well as alleged to the Travancore Devswom Board (TDB) that they are trying to finish our old customs .They have also claimed that under their age-old religious rites, rajaswala girls(Women having menstruation cycles) and women are considered impure and therefore allowing them to enter the temple is similar to ending these holy customs.

Let us tell you that in the famous temple of Kerala, so far the women of the age group of 10 to 50 years were not allowed to enter but some time ago, the Supreme Court had given a verdict in this matter saying that any woman in the temple complex may go. Today, the entrance to this temple is going to be opened after a long time, and in the same area situation has started aggressive even now.
