KANPUR: At least 20 coaches of the Sabarmati Express derailed in the early hours of Saturday near the Bhimsen station, close to Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred around 2:30 am, but fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far, according to a railway board official.

"The loco pilot mentioned that a boulder struck the cattle guard, which is the front part of the train's engine, causing significant damage and bending it," the official informed.

To assist the stranded passengers, an eight-coach MEMU train was dispatched from Kanpur to the accident site. This train arrived at the scene around 5:21 am and safely transported the passengers back to Kanpur, where further arrangements were made for their continued journeys. Shashi Kant Tripathi, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the North Central Railway Zone, confirmed these details.

Additionally, buses were also brought to the site to help ferry passengers back to Kanpur. Jhansi Division's Railway DRM, Deepak Kumar, reassured everyone that no casualties or injuries occurred. "Passengers have been taken back to Kanpur via both bus and train, and another train has been prepared in Kanpur to continue their onward journeys," he told ANI.

In response to the derailment, Indian Railways has issued emergency helpline numbers to assist affected passengers and their families.
