Officials say that it is only clear from the response so far that the taxpayers themselves are not willing to be involved in litigation for much longer. Therefore, there is a desire to get relief by taking advantage of the exemption available under the scheme. While launching the scheme, 3.6 lakh crore rupees were stuck in 1.83 lakh cases of the government. Under the scheme, a provision has been found to provide relief up to 70 percent in cases of Rs 50 lakh and below.

The rate of relief on the amount of more than Rs 50 lakh has been kept at 50 percent. This relief is for the pending cases in which taxpayers have accepted the amount of duty till June 30, 2019. All officers have been told that before December 31, all efforts to contact 1.83 lakh taxpayers should be continued.
