Los Angeles: Singer Sabrina Carpenter expresses that she feels “so prepared” for fame as she navigates her career in music and acting. Known for hits like “Espresso” and “Please Please Please,” Carpenter rose to prominence as a teen on the show “Girl Meets World.” She recently showcased her talent at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, an event she had always dreamed of attending.

In an interview with Time magazine, Carpenter reflected on how her early experiences as a child star helped her embrace the spotlight. “I grew up watching those (MTV VMA) performances and being like, ‘I want to do that,’” she said. Her appearance at the awards was a significant milestone, with Carpenter describing it as “another dream realised.”

She noted that, at one point, she thought performing at the VMAs might never happen. “It all just seemed so – not even out of reach, just like I had a different plan in my head of when it was all supposed to happen,” Carpenter explained.

Carpenter also discussed how her age has shaped her response to fame. “I feel so prepared for these moments. If I was even 17 or 18, I think I would have been way, way more nervous and intimidated.” She recalled her nerves when she learned she would be a musical guest on “Saturday Night Live,” stating that she “literally threw up” from the excitement.

Additionally, Carpenter touched on how embracing her sexuality in her work has led to similar criticism faced by pop icons Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. When asked if she experiences the same kind of backlash, she said, “No, I definitely get that as well…but you’ll still get the occasional mother that has a strong opinion on how you should be dressing. And to that, I just say, ‘Don’t come to the show,’ and that’s OK.”

She called it “unfortunate” that dressing choices often attract criticism. “The scariest thing in the world is getting up on a stage in front of that many people and having to perform as if it’s nothing,” she added. Carpenter emphasized that if dressing a certain way helps her feel comfortable on stage, then that’s what she will continue to do.
