CAPE TOWN: South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said his country wants to see a "bigger and deeper collaboration" with other BRICS members (Russia, India, China, and South Africa), describing the group as "attractive" to many other countries.
During a media briefing in Cape Town, Ramaphosa made the remarks in response to concerns concerning the BRICS partnership. Regarding the BRICS' expansion, Ramaphosa stated that "the fact that a lot of other countries desire to join BRICS speaks volumes about the trust that many other countries have in BRICS."
"They see BRICS as a wonderful forward-looking alternative to the current blocs that exist in the country, and people regard BRICS as a really attractive bloc, political bloc, economy bloc, or formation in the world," he said.
When it comes to this year's BRICS Leaders' Meeting, Ramaphosa expects the summit to take a thorough look at the world's geopolitical situation and determine how best the member countries can continue to foster development and a multilateral system that will support the advancement of the world's people's prosperity.
He added that South Africa will be looking forward to the support and progress of the BRICS immunisation centre in the country, as well as the strengthening and widening of commerce between member countries.
