According to data from the recently surfaced industry agency SIAM, combined sales volume growth of trains in the four states decreased by 2 to 27 per cent compared to industry growth in March quarter. The decline in sales volume was influenced by the two-Weiler, the passenger car and the medium and heavy commercial vehicle (MHCV) segment. There are about one-third of these four states which contribute 36% to the country's total GDP. The per capita income of these four states is 55% higher than the national average of Rs 1.03 lakh. The highest reduction in the sales volume of trains has come in Maharashtra, while Gujarat and the third number are second in Delhi.

For your information, Maharashtra is the largest market for passenger cars, which comes second only to Uttar Pradesh in terms of sales of two-wheelers in addition to medium and heavy commercial vehicle. The volume of the passenger vehicle decreased in three out of four quarter of the financial year 2019 in Maharashtra, while sales volume of two-wheelers fell 30% in the March quarter. The second biggest drop after Gujarat has been seen in the sales of this segment.
