There was a time when Amitabh Bachchan had said yes to working on Salim-Javed's script one after the other. Amitabh Bachchan first worked with Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar in the movie Zanjeer in 1973. Amitabh had become an overnight superstar with this movie. Salim Javed with Amitabh Bachchan in 1974's 'Majboor', 1975's 'Deewar' and 'Sholay', 1977's 'Imaan Dharam', 1978's Trishul, then 'Don', 1979's 'Kaala' Patthar had worked in 'Dostana' in 1980 and 'Shaan' in 1982, Shakti in 1982. According to the news, one day suddenly Javed and Salim had decided to separate. In such a situation, different types of news started coming. One reason came to the fore related to Amitabh Bachchan. At that time the script of the Mr India movie was being worked on.

When Amitabh Bachchan refused to become 'Mr India': In 2015, scroll.in picked up a coat from the book 'Written by Salim Javed: The Story of Hindi Cinemas Greatest Screenwriter' which also talked about Salim Khan's side. The book, written by Deepatkirti Chaudhary, mentions the testimony taken by Anita (Anita Padhye).

The book also explains how Salim and Javed had approached Amitabh Bachchan for the script of 'Mr India'. But Amitabh Bachchan didn't like the script and could not attract much of his character's invisible idea in this script.
