LUCKNOW: After being barred from bringing up the students' agitation at Allahabad University over a significant fee increase, the Samajwadi Party staged a walkout from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Friday and declared a boycott of the proceedings.

Akhilesh  Yadav sought to talk about the matter as soon as the Assembly's proceeding started, but Speaker Satish Mahana prevented him from speaking before his turn. At this point, the enraged Samajwadi Party members shouted and left the House.

Following that, the Samajwadi Party MLAs marched back to their party office under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav.
It is notable that Allahabad University students have been protesting the fee increase for more than a fortnight and have also called for the reinstatement of the student union. After numerous hostellers joined in and organised a march inside the campus, the protests have become more intense.

Even though Allahabad University noted that the cost was increased after 110 years, the protests are still going on. The university's Executive Council approved the fee increases for several courses about a week ago, marking the first since the university's founding in 1922.

The University said,  the fee hike is necessary given the changes being made in compliance with the National Education Policy, which mandates the hiring of more teachers and the introduction of new courses. The institution also made it clear that none of the present students will be impacted because the fee increase would only apply to new enrollees beginning with the academic year 2022–2023.
