Kanpur: An FIR has been registered against Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Amitabh Bajpai from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. He has been accused of announcing a reward for slapping an NHAI officer. On the other hand, MLA says he had earlier complained to the police, but the police did not listen to him.

In fact, at an event on August 15, MLA Amitabh Bajpai had announced from an open forum that whoever slaps National Highway Authority officer Amit Mittal would be given a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his behalf. An FIR has since been lodged by Amit Mittal against the MLA at Bithoor police station. Police have registered a case under sections 504 and 506 of the IPC against the MLA.

Meanwhile, MLA says the police did not register my FIR. He claimed that he earlier applied against NHAI at Bithoor police station. He has accused the police of harassing him. While ACP Ashok Shukla says the first FIR has been lodged against the MLA by the NHAI. He said the police have started investigating the case.
