Samsung has been selected by Dish Network to deliver 5G network technology in a multi-year deal worth more than USD1 billion.

Accordingly, Samsung will use the DISH Wireless SMART 5G network to implement 5G Open Radio Access Network products. Samsung's 5G solutions and radio units will be deployed in areas across the United States to enable DISH's commercial 5G services.

"Samsung's 5G solutions will play a critical part in our network development, allowing us to implement our cloud-native network with software-based solutions that support improved services and operational scalability," said John Swieringa, DISH Wireless' president and chief operating officer.

Notably, Samsung was awarded a $6.6 billion contract by Verizon in 2020 to deliver 4G and 5G network equipment. "Samsung is excited to be a part of this 5G journey with DISH, a pioneer in bringing new experiences to homes and businesses across the country, leveraging openness and virtualization, which are at the heart of network evolution," said Mark Louison, executive vice president and head of Samsung Electronics America's Networks Business.

DISH is testing its 5G network using the Samsung Galaxy S22 and intends to use Samsung phones as a reference platform throughout the network implementation process.
