Dr. Arora: Gupt Rog Visheshagya is a web series directed by Imtiaz Ali and directed by Archit Kumar and Sajid Ali, the show takes place in 1999 in the hinterland of India. Dr. Vishesh Arora (Kumud Mishra) is a dedicated homeopathic sexologist who runs clinics He keeps traveling to these three cities where he is a lot in demand throughout the week. Arora, however, has kept his profession a secret even from his mother (Himani Shivpuri) as it’s considered taboo. The show focuses on a few of his interesting patients. Devendra Thakur (Gaurav Parajuli), a strong man of a political party, suffers from erectile dysfunction which stops him from having fun with his new neighbor Putul (Shruti Das), a married woman. A short-tempered and brave superintendent of police Tej Pratap Tomar (Ajitesh Gupta) is unable to satisfy his wife Mithu (Sandeepa Dhar) because of premature ejaculation.
Sandeepa Dhar in a recent interview opened up about the difficulty in working on such an issue which is considered Taboo, “I would have been apprehensive if Imtiaz was not attached. There is a certain amount of credibility that Imtiaz brings to the table. You know for a fact that it’s not going to be vulgar or cheap in any way because it has Imtiaz attaching his name to it. And I knew he had written it so I knew very well that I was in safe hands. There was no doubt about the quality of the project.”
Speaking about the subject the actress said, “Yes, it is a subject that can make you yourself uncomfortable at times because you are not used to talking about such things with your parents and family. Yes, that apprehension could be there. But then, that’s what the intent of the show is--to remove it. We want to make it into a subject that any other medical issue. Until some time ago, mental health was like that. Until you talk about it, you won’t be able to normalize it.”
