Nargis Dutt is one of the greatest actresses in the history of Hindi cinema.She has won the hearts of the audince by deliveing many performance on  during her career that spanned from the 1940s to the 60s. She  appeared in numerous commercially successful as well as critically appreciated films, many of which featured her alongside actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor.

Nargis Dutt was born with a different name -- Fatima Rashid.. Her mother Jaddanbai was a classical singer and a courtesan who played a big part in introducing Nargis to the film industry.. She was introduced to the film industry at an early age. She appeared as a child artist, at the age of six, in Talash-E-Haq in 1935.

Before marrying Sunil Dutt, Nargis  had an affair with Raj Kapoor  who was already married when he started dating Nargis and had refused to divorce his wife. This resulted in their break-up.

In an incident, Sunil Dutt had reportedly saved her from a fire, that broke out on the sets of Mother India,which made her fall in love with him. She wanted to kill herself before Sunil Dutt came into her life.

 Nargis was honoured with the National Film Award for her performance in Raat aur Din.  She was awarded a Filmfare Award for the Oscar-nominated film Mother India.
