Sanket Mahadev Sagar and Prashant Suresh won gold and silver medals respectively in the men's 55 kg weightlifting event of the Khelo India University Games here on Wednesday.

According to reports, Sanket of Shivaji University Kolhapur set a new record in clean and jerk from 138 kg while maintaining a record of the same competition by lifting a total weight of 244 kg.

Prashant made a new record by lifting 110 kg in snatch, which was earlier in the name of R. Madhavan of Puducherry. Sanket said, "I had also won the gold medal at the Khelo India Youth Games. Was desperate to repeat his success. I'm glad I broke the national record."
