Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has declared environmentalist Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal and entrepreneur-philanthropist Bikramjit Singh Sahni as its candidates for the Upper House from Punjab, both of whom are Padma Shri awardees. The announcement was made by Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann. In fact, polling for 57 Rajya Sabha seats is scheduled to be held on June 10 and May 31 is the last date for nominations.  

In view of the party's position of the Legislative Assemblies of various states, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in a position to win seats in Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Bihar, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Prominent leaders whose term is coming to an end include The Leader of the House in the Upper House, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.  

Meanwhile, the names of candidates for the Rajya Sabha are also being finalised by the opposition parties. Punjab Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Bhagwant Mann on Saturday informed that environmentalist Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal and entrepreneur-philanthropist Bikramjit Singh Sahni have been nominated to the Upper House from Punjab, who are Padma Shri awardees.
