The coming Saturday i.e. 9th January is the first Ekadashi of the year 2021. This Ekadashi is called Saphala Ekadashi. It is said that whoever observes this fast on this Ekadashi, all his sins are destroyed and he gets good results. According to the scriptures, if those who cannot observe fast, read the fast story while worshipping Lord Vishnu on the day of Ekadashi with true heart, then they can get great benefits. Today we have brought that story of Ekadashi.

Saphala Ekadashi Story- According to the story Saphala Ekadashi in Padma Purana there was a king named Mahishman. His eldest son Lumpak used to indulge in sin deeds. Troubled by his habits, one day the King drove him out of the country. Lumpak went to live in a forest. On the tenth night of Krishna Paksha of Pausha month, he could not sleep due to cold. Throughout the night he repented of his actions. By the morning of Ekadashi, he had fainted due to cold. When he regained consciousness in the afternoon, he collected fruit from the forest. In the evening he again started cursing his luck and apologized to God.

He spent the whole night of Ekadashi regretting the sorrows. Unknowingly, his Saphala Ekadashi fast was completed and Lord Narayana was pleased with him. Lumpak improved forever with the effect of fasting. After this, King Mahishman handed over the entire kingdom to him and went away for penance himself. Lumpak held the state whole-heartedly for a long time and later, leaving the kingdom, he too went for penance. After his death, he got a place in Vishnu Loka.
