NEW DELHI: Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Minister of Minority Affairs, said on Tuesday that the Saudi Arabian government, not the Indian government, should decide on the Haj Yatra date.
In response to Trinamool Congress MP Nadimul Haque's speech during the Zero Hour, he said the Haj yatra could not be done for two years in a row due to the Covid-19 outbreak in other nations, including India.
"This year is our goal, and the Saudi authorities must decide when the pilgrimage will begin. We've all been preparing for this year "he said."The Haj yatra is an international pilgrimage," Naqvi continued, "and the government would follow what the Saudi Arabian government determines, including how many people will go from India." He further stated that during the Modi administration, over two lakh people participated in the Haj Yatra.
While raising this issue, the Trinamool MP also stated that this yatra is expected to begin this year because pandemic effects are less. He also inquired as to when the nine members from the states will be nominated to the newly formed Haj Committee. M. Venkaiah Naidu, the Chairman, has urged the Minority Affairs Minister to confer with Nadimul Haq on additional Haj Committee matters.
