BCCI president confirms Rahul Dravid will coach Indian team on Sri Lanka tour

New Delhi: Team India's main players are currently on a tour of England for the World Test Championship final. WTC, after playing in the final, the team is to play in a 5-Test series against the hosts. Skipper Virat Kohli, vice-captain Rohit Sharma are not playing against Sri Lanka in the Limited overs series, replaced by opener Shikhar Dhawan as captain.

Head coach Ravi Shastri will also be in England during the series, which is why his responsibility has been entrusted to former veteran and NCA chief Rahul Dravid. Talking to an English website, BCCI Chief Sourav Ganguly confirmed that former India captain Rahul Dravid will play the role of head coach of the Indian team in the absence of head coach Ravi Shastri. Ganguly further said that Rahul Dravid will coach Team India for the tour of Sri Lanka. The Indian team is scheduled to play 3 ODIs and t20 series of so many matches in Sri Lanka.

Rituraj Gaikwad, who attracted the attention of the selectors with his batting in the IPL for the tour of Sri Lanka, has been selected. This is the first time he has been selected for Team India. He is expected to get a chance to make his debut on the tour. It is expected that a significant part of the squad which would travel to Sri Lanka would comprise players who have already played under Dravid's coaching with India's U-19 and A teams in the past. Under Dravid's tenure as the coach of the U-19 setup, India lifted the World Cup in 2018.
