The destiny of 15 miners stranded inside an illegal coal mine in Meghalaya's Jaintia Hills district remains cloaked in mystery even after 15 days of the disaster. The search operations had been cancelled by the Meghalaya government as high-pressure pumps to assist in the rescue are not available with the state government. Though, the ruling NPP-BJP (National People's Party-Bharatiya Janata Party) combine in Meghalaya stated the state government was making all rigorous efforts to rescue the stranded miners.

Its Day 15, and the  Hopes has fade for trapped Meghalaya miners as pumps to drain pits yet to reach accident site.

Worth mention here About 20 miners on December 13 entered a 370-foot-deep banned coal mine in Ksan area of Lumthari village in Meghalaya that is owned by a businessman Krip Chullet. After arriving the bottom of the pit, they came horizontal manholes which frequently termed as 'rat-holes', as each just about fits one person. So far Five persons were able to climb out of the flooded mine, leaving the others at the back.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma rejected allegations that his government was not upbeat and stated that the administration along with the NDRF had worked really hard to mark out the miners, but sadly, the operation did not yield any positive result. The miners were stranded after water from the nearby Lytein river unexpectedly gushed into the pit.
