Raipur: Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel on Friday attacked Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Swami Prasad Maurya over his controversial remarks on Ramcharitmanas. Baghel said that this whole controversy is just for votes. Call God by any name, it doesn't matter. Baghel said, ''Whatever quarrel is going on over Ramcharitmanas, it is all for votes. This controversy is pleasing to the Samajwadi Party (SP) as well as the BJP. This is pleasing to Samajwadi Party leader Maurya as well as UP CM Yogi Adityanath."

He further said, "If someone chants Mara-Mara again and again, 'Ram-Ram' will come out of his mouth. What difference does it make if someone says Mara and someone says Ram? You can worship God by any name." CM Baghel said, ''I would like to say about Ramayana that Vinoba Bhave had said a very good thing in this matter. Ramcharitmanas needs to be read deeply, no need to debate on it. Good things should be accepted. There should not be a dispute about two or four couplets. Everything cannot be perfect for every person, every person has his own preference like some like bitter gourd, some don't. Last month, Samajwadi Party leader Maurya courted controversy after demanding the removal of "derogatory comments and sarcasm" targeted at particular castes and communities in the Ramcharitmanas, based on the epic Ramayana.

Maurya further claimed that the Ramcharitmanas composed by Tulsidas contained words that hurt the sentiments of the Dalit community. Additionally, Chief Minister Baghel once again highlighted the Union Budget 2023, which was presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday, February 1. He said that there are some important points in the budget which he would like to mention. Baghel said, ''Inflation is at its peak, fiscal deficit is at its peak, current deficit is at its peak, unemployment is at its peak and the debt burden has tripled in 8 years. This is the conclusion. The budget is very disappointing for farmers, laborers, women, lower class, and middle class and this is the reality of the so-called Amrit Kaal.''
