SC Collegium recommends Elevation of Justice Ujjal Bhuyan As Telangana CJ

New Delhi: Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, has been recommended as the new Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court by the Supreme Court Collegium. Justice Vipin Sanghi, Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, was also recommended for elevation to Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court by the Collegium.

The position of Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court became vacant after Justice DN Patel retired.
The Collegium also recommended that Justices AA Sayed, SS Shinde, Rashmin M Chhaya, and Ujjal Bhuyan be elevated to Chief Justices of the High Courts of Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gauhati, and Telangana, respectively. The Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, made the decision.

On October 17, 2011, Justice Bhuyan was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court, and on March 20, 2013, he was confirmed. Justice Ujjal Bhuyan was a close associate of Assam's Judicial Academy and Guwahati's National Law University.

On October 3, 2019, he was transferred to the Bombay High Court and sworn in as a judge. After a two-year service in Mumbai, he was transferred to the Telangana High Court, where he was sworn in as a judge on October 22, 2021. In addition, he serves as the Executive Chairman of the Telangana State Legal Services Authority.
