New Delhi: The Supreme Court refused to hear the petition of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) challenging WhatsApp's new privacy policy. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Sharad Arvind Bobade asked the petitioner to go to the Delhi High Court.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has also requested the apex court to give directions to the central government to form a guideline for operating tech companies like Facebook and WhatsApp. In January, WhatsApp introduced its new privacy policy. It explained how WhatsApp processes consumers' data and shares it with Facebook. The new policy said that to continue using WhatsApp, consumers would have to agree to the new rules and policies by February 8, 2021.

However, after its criticism and grudging, WhatsApp made it clear on Twitter that the account will not be suspended or deleted if no one agrees until February 8. WhatsApp had said that it would withdraw its business plans after May. Earlier on Wednesday, the Delhi High Court had asked the Central Government to respond on Wednesday on a PIL challenging WhatsApp's new privacy policy. A bench of Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh issued a notice to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and WhatsApp on the petition asking them to respond by March.
