The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected the petition filed by 21 Opposition leaders demanding 50 percent verification of EVMs with VVPAT slips. The hearing ended in under a minute, reports said.   CJI Ranjan Gogoi, heading the bench hearing the review, said that the court was "not inclined to interfere" and review its earlier order.

The EC had earlier argued that matching the VVPAT slips would delay the election results announcements by at least six days. The opposition leaders had filed the review petition three weeks ago after the Supreme Court, ordered the EC to increase the physical counting of VVPAT slips to five random EVMs in each assembly constituency.

In the meantime, Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu arrived in Delhi on Tuesday to attend the hearing in the apex court in connection with the VVPAT review petition case. Speaking to Times Now, he said, “We have come here for justice. We seek greater transparency in the election process.”
