Hyderabad: The Hyderabad- based School Parents Association HSPA has asked the state government to reduce tuition fees by 50 per cent. The association spoke before Telangana state education minister Sabita Indra Reddy on Thursday.

The association said the reduction in tuition fees would provide some relief to parents in the event of an outbreak. The move will bring relief to about 34 lakh parents in Telangana who are dissatisfied with the violation of the above-mentioned GEO by private schools.

The GO directs private non-accredited schools not to raise any fees for the 2020 academic year. In addition, they have to pay the tuition fee only on a monthly basis.

However, private non-accredited schools charge fees under various headings such as transportation fees, computer fees, food fees, sports fees, infrastructure fees, and tuition fees. As a result, tuition fees for the 2020-21 academic year increased compared to the previous year.

HSPA said that following the parents' complaints, the education department had set up an inquiry committee on October 10 last year. Authorities have filed reports against 11 schools for violating GO regulations. But no action has been initiated yet.

The parent association reminded the minister that the government had set up the Tirupati Rao Committee on March 21, 2017 to formulate a policy for determining private school fees. However, the report has not yet been submitted.

In this context, the order of the state government on April 14, 2020 to charge tuition fees only on a monthly basis did not bring any relief to the parents. HSPA representatives said school education officials did not take action against the wrong schools for violating government instructions.
