Ranchi: All schools in Jharkhand will be closed on Monday, June 20, as part of the "Bharat Bandh" called by some organisations in protest of the Central government's Agnipath recruitment scheme launched by the Central government last week.

Protests against the Army recruitment scheme have resulted in the deployment of security personnel at various locations throughout Ranchi.

"Today was the JAC exam day for class 11. For today's exams, new dates will be announced "said Sister Mary Grace, Principal of Ursuline Convent School and Inter College.

On June 14, the Union Cabinet approved Agnipath, a recruitment scheme for Indian youth to serve in the three Armed Forces services, and the youth selected under this scheme will be known as Agniveers.

Following the announcement of the policy, which allows Indian youths to serve in the regular cadre of the Armed Forces for four years, on June 14, protests erupted in a number of states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Jharkhand, and Assam.

As the agitation grew in some areas, protestors went on the rampage, torching trains, torching vehicles, and destroying both private and public property.
