New Delhi: The rapidly spreading Delta variant of the Corona virus has changed its form to 'Delta Plus' or 'AY1', but there is nothing to worry about in India as there are still very few cases in the country. Scientists have reported that the delta plus type is made up of mutations in the delta or B1.617.2 type of virus, which was first identified in India and caused by the second wave of corona.

However, there is no indication yet of how deadly the disease can be due to the new type of virus, Delta Plus is resistant to the 'monoclonal antibody cocktail' treatment that has recently been approved in India. Vinod Skaria, a scientist at the Delhi-based CSIR-Ginomiki and The Institute of Combined Biology (IGIB), tweeted on Sunday, "K417N mutation has led to b1.617.2 types also known as AY1."

He said the mutation occurred in the spike protein of SARS COV-2, which helps in infecting the virus by going inside human cells. "The type that stems from K417N in India is not very high yet," Scaria wrote on Twitter. These sequences have mostly come from Europe, Asia and the US.''
