Scindia flags off IndiGo's flight from Itanagar to Mumbai via Kolkata

New Delhi: Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia Tuesday flagged off IndiGo's flight from Itanagar to Mumbai via Kolkata This is the first flight from Donyi Polo Airport at Hollongi, Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh. Itanagar is the 75th domestic and 101st overall destination in the IndiGo network.

The second frequency between Kolkata and Itanagar will begin on December 3, Indigo said in a statement.. Law Minister Kiren Rijiju was among those who virtually attended the occasion.

Commenting on the development, Sanjay Kumar, chief strategy and revenue officer at IndiGo said, "We are pleased to start operations from Itanagar, which will be our 10th destination in the Northeast. Over the last few years, IndiGo has focused on improving accessibility in the Northeast and now connects seven out of eight States in the region."

Scindia also said that there will be more aircraft operating between the Northeast and other locations, and that air connectivity in the area has been improved. There are now 16 airports in the Northeast, up from 9 in 2013–2014..
The Minister added that initiatives are being taken to turn the Northeastern States into an economic powerhouse. Imphal to Mandalay and Agartala to Chittagong flights will soon begin, he said, as part of efforts to improve international air connectivity in the area.

Agartala is in Tripura, Chittagong is in Bangladesh, Imphal is in Manipur, Mandalay is in Myanmar, and Chittagong is in Manipur. On November 19, the airport's inauguration was performed by the prime minister. It is the State's fourth operating airport. The sun is referred to as "Donyi" and the moon as "Polo."

The airport, which is also Arunachal Pradesh's first greenfield airport, was built on more than 690 acres of land for more than 640 crore. The 2,300-meter-long runway at the airport allows for operations in all weather conditions throughout the day.
