Season 5 of 'The Crown' will premiere on Netflix in November 2022, according to a statement issued on Saturday. The revelation was made at Netflix's Tudum jubilee, a global celebration of the streaming service's global commonwealth of film and TV titles, according to Variety.

Imelda Staunton will play Queen Elizabeth, Jonathan Pryce will play Prince Philip, Lesley Manville will perform Princess Margaret, Dominic West will play Prince Charles, Elizabeth Debicki will play Princess Diana, and Olivia Williams will play Camilla Parker Bowles in the much-acclaimed series 'The Crown,' which won big at Emmy awards in its fourth season. Prime Minister John Major will also be played by Jonny Lee Miller.

According to reports, this will be the last cast for 'The Crown,' which premiered in 2016. For two seasons, Claire Foy portrays Queen Elizabeth at the commencement of her reign. Following Season 2, the show took a year off before returning in 2019 with Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth at the helm for Seasons 3 and 4. From the set of 'The Crown,' Staunton announced the debut date. She also complimented Foy and Colman for their Emmy-nominated performances in the role she has now taken over.

The 65-year-old was unveiled as the Queen's new face for the forthcoming season of the hit show. She wasn't dressed in costume for the part. "I will do all in my power to uphold the excellent standard that they have set. I'm hoping to project a calm, controlled, and capable demeanour. Meanwhile, my tummy is performing somersaults "she stated 
Staunton was meant to play Elizabeth for a single, final season, but creator and executive producer Peter Morgan extended Staunton's contract through Season 6, which Morgan has stated will be the show's final season. The disintegration of Prince Charles and Princess Diana's marriage, which legally terminated in 1996, will very probably be the focus of the forthcoming season.

Season 5 will almost certainly show the circumstances leading up to Diana's sad death in a vehicle accident in 1997, since actor Khalid Abdalla has already been cast in the part of Dodi Fayed, Diana's rumoured boyfriend at the time of her death. Morgan already captured those events as the screenwriter of the 2006 feature 'The Queen', which won Helen Mirren an Oscar for her performance as Queen Elizabeth, as per Variety.
