Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh): TDP Polit Bureau member and leader of the opposition in the Legislative Council Yanamala Ramakrishna said that the local body elections in March were halted after the spread of Covid-19. Elections should be new. Mr. Ramakrishna said the State Election Commission (SEC) is an independent constitutional body whose authority and decision making cannot be questioned.

The Constitution and the State Election Commissioner said that the state government was challenging the election-related laws along with autonomy. The government does not cooperate to violate Articles 243 K and 243 Z (a) of the Constitution. The arguments given by the Government are unacceptable. He said that the SEC was needed to contact the government but this does not mean that it should get consent before the elections.

"The General Secretary does not have a local stand to tell the SEC that elections cannot be held," Ramakrishna said. Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and the General Secretary have no moral right to interfere with the SEC decisions.

The Chief Election Officer at the Meeting of the YSR Gave the voter list details to the representatives of all parties.
