Dehradun: Uttarakhand has registered a second case of death due to black fungus or mucomyosis. A 72-year-old woman has died of the disease in AIIMS in Rishikesh. A senior doctor at the AIIMS informed in this regard on Wednesday. ENT surgeon Amit Tyagi, who is leading a team of doctors treating black fungus patients at the hospital, said the woman, a resident of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, died during treatment on Tuesday.

Earlier last Friday, a 36-year-old man died of the disease in Rishikesh AIIMS. Amit Tyagi said that meanwhile five more patients with symptoms of black fungus have been admitted to the hospital and so far a total of 30 patients of the disease have been admitted in AIIMS out of which two have died. He said an 81-year-old woman has been discharged from the hospital after recovering from the infection.

A total of 38 cases of black fungus have been registered in Uttarakhand so far. Meanwhile, the state government has issued orders for proper use of amphotericin-B injections used in the treatment of the disease.
