Raipur: Security forces have gunned down two Naxalites in an encounter in the Naxal-hit Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. Sukma district police officials said on Tuesday that two Naxalites were killed in an encounter by security forces in the forest between Gompad and Kanhaiguda villages under the Konta police station area of the district.

Police officials said a team of cobra battalion of DRG and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was dispatched in patrolling in the area after receiving information about Naxalite activity in the Konta police station area. He said that when the team was in the forest between Gompad and Kanhaiguda village, Naxalites started firing on the security forces, after which the security forces also retaliated. They said that after firing from both sides for some time, the Naxalites fled the spot, after which the security forces checked the spot, So the bodies, weapons, and explosives of two Naxalites were recovered there.

Police officials said a large number of blood marks were found on the spot. Several other Naxalites are likely to have been killed in the encounter. He said the Naxalites killed in the encounter have not been identified, but one of them is estimated to be Kawasi Hunga, a LOS commander in the Konta area. Police officials said more information is being sought about the incident. The case against Naxalites is continuing in the area.
