Srinagar: On November 4th, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir successfully averted a potential tragedy by detecting and defusing a timer-based improvised explosive device (IED). The IED was concealed in a tiffin box and planted along the Sidhra-Narwal stretch of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, near a police checkpoint.

Security officials revealed that a timer-based IED hidden in a tiffin box was discovered along the Sidhra bypass on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Jammu city on Saturday evening. Following the discovery, a police team and a bomb disposal squad were dispatched to the scene, resulting in the suspension of traffic movement and the safe disposal of the IED.

The device, weighing around two kilograms, was safely detonated after its discovery. Police officials emphasized that their prompt action had averted a potential major tragedy. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and an ongoing investigation aims to apprehend those responsible.

This incident is not isolated, as explosives have been found planted along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway earlier this year. On August 22nd, another IED was discovered along the highway, near Panjgrain, Nagrota, on the outskirts of Jammu. The terrorist organization TRF (The Resistance Front) claimed responsibility for the IED bomb on social media.

In a separate development, the Special Investigation Agency (SIA) officials conducted searches at the residence of an alleged terror suspect in Poonch on November 4th. The searches took place at the home of Mohammad Hafiz in Kanuyian village, Mendhar sub-division. While the suspect was not present during the raid, a joint cordon-and-search operation was launched by police and the Central Reserve Police Force at various locations in the Poonch district.

The operation spanned areas including Copra Top, Bachian Wali, Shiendara, Thandi Kassi, and Mohalla Saedan, with efforts ongoing as of the latest reports.
