NEW DELHI: Self-styled godman Rampal has been sentenced to life imprisonment in links with two cases of murder, as the leading news agency ANI reported. For those who don’t know, he was convicted of murder by a court in Haryana last week.

Worth mention here Rampal and 27 of his followers were accused of murder and illegal captivity after four women and a child were found dead in his Satlok Ashram in Barwala in Hisar on November 19, 2014.

On a related note Rampal was in police custody in 2014 after his 12-acre ashram in Hisar was captured by policemen as his suppoters were armed with stones, batons and guns. The days-long blockade included Rampal were using devotees as human shields.

In August last year, he was found not culpable of criminally confining thousands of followers and blocked officials in 2014 when they thronged his ashram. It is noted that six people were killed as his devotees turned into a private army to protect  Rampal’s arrest while hundreds were badly injured.

Rampal issued an order that loves the fifteenth century artist and spiritualist Kabir, known for a message of resistance that is trailed by individuals of changed beliefs.
